In 1966-67 I went to Nigeria as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I was young, idealistic, and na?ve. My world quickly expanded and exploded once I arrived in West Africa. I learned about making friends, living in another culture, and becoming independent. When the Eastern region of Nigeria declared itself the independent country of Biafra, all PCVs were evacuated because of the Civil War. This book, written from letters I sent home during that time, and my memories, is a reflection of that exciting period of my life.
