I inherited a copy of this book from a professor who was giving all of her older books away. This book is indeed out of print and 1978 turns out to be the last edition. In my opinion, this book taught me a lot more of the fundamental chemistry than the more expensive and latest books. The reason is because the author has written this text from a student point of view so everything he says is extremely simple common language. This makes some of the concepts absolutely lucid. For example, his analogy of staircase for atomic orbital is brilliant. The electron is a golf ball when excited goes to a higher energy level (upper stairs) and then returns to the lower level....This I think is a perfect analogy with which one can explain many different things such as fluorescence, ionization etc. and the author gives explanation! simply brilliant! Just one thing, use this as a basic reference or to brush up your basics. That is what this book is intended for. Not an advanced manual.
