Hands-On Therapy

This is a great book for people who like to knit, crochet or do needlework to help relieve stress, soften grief, and to give love. For me, crocheting is something repetitive, rhythmic and very calming. By slowing down to crochet for 30-60 min a day & focusing all of my thoughts & feelings on the intended recipient of the project, I am able to escape from the anxiety and stress of everyday life. I thought I was the only person who felt that way until I read this book. I don't know many people who do needlework and it was wonderful to hear stories from other crafters. The only part I disagree with is the title "Cheaper Than Therapy"--Crocheting is not always cheap! I sometimes spend $100 or more on a single project!

A strongly recommended read for fiber artists and needlecraft hobbyists

Knowledgeably edited by Annie Modesitt, Cheaper Than Therapy: Joy, Healing And Life Lessons In Fiber is an impressive and memorable compilation of poems and writings drawn from a large selection of writers revealing the essence of the therapeutic nature sewing, knitting, crocheting, and spinning. The reader will discover hidden secrets as to why so many people take the needlecraft arts as such a popular and widespread hobby. Cheaper Than Therapy is a strongly recommended read for fiber artists and needlecraft hobbyists for its definitive ability to engage the reader from beginning to end.

Roller coaster of emotions

Reading each of the essays in this book has taken me on quite a ride of emotions. I have been divorced, shopping at Super Yarn Mart, meditating, barn dancing, enduring Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and grieving. The common thread, the source of hope, the tool of choice is fiber and the authors of these essays have all experienced amazing life changes as they knitted, crocheted and shopped with fiber.
