The Shooting at Chateau Rock not up to par

I enjoy all the character development and subplots in the Bruno series but this particular book seemed very weak in its main plot. If you are going to skip one, I would suggest this one. I’m already reading another, so it’s not the series, just this book.

As usual the pages and pages of cookery are annoying.

I have to assume that pages and pages of cookery in mystery books these days is de rigueur. The Bruno books are the most obtrusive with it and by the time I've come to the end, I want to shout, "For Heaven's sake! Publish a recipe book and have done with it!" Still, a recipe book doesn't provide page fodder. As to the detailed description of dogs mating, not being a voyeur of animals, I found it unnecessary and rather puerile. However, once again, it provided page fodder. I do generally enjoy these books in a mild way, but my friends refuse to read them because of a lack of a French-English glossary in each book. I assume they aren't written for those who are not French afficionados (oops, but that's Spanish. Sorry about that). Check it out of the library; don't buy it.
