I had the honor of taking the introductory class at Marquette University and being taught by Dr. Robert Masson. The class, especially for me, a non-Christian, was a wonderful look into Christianity and everything that makes it special. There are many things with which us outsiders (and many Christians themselves) question. Things like Jesus' divintiy and humanity (can he really be both? ) are explained the way the Church understands them. The problem with this book is that I do not think I would have understood it without the class to ask questions. Many of the topics covered in the book delve so deep into theology and philosophy, that even the most adequate explainations may not help with example after example to clarify. All-in-all, I wouldn't start with this book -- it is very deep. However, if you hvae the drive to really buckle down and tackle some of the issues within, then I think, as I did, that you will really find yourself broken into the "Charmed Circle" of Christianity.
An In Depth Introduction to Christianity

The Charmed Circle is an amazing gateway into Christianity from the Catholic perspective for both Christians and non-Christians. While the book is written for people with only the most basic knowledge of Christian theology, it takes the reader very deep into Catholic and Christian theology. The premise of the book is that for many people today Christianity is a mystery. During the course of the book, this mystery is explored in an attempt to show the reader what is at the heart of this religion. The first issue explored is who and what God is and what His relationship with humanity is. Next, Jesus Christ's place is examined, both as a real human being and as the divine Son of God. Finally, the place of the Church is examined. Not only does this book introduce the reader to Christianity's theology, but it also gives the reader a general feel for some of the major modern figures which have affected Catholic thought, foremost of these being the Jesuit theologian Karl Rahner. The book's author, Dr. Robert Masson, is a systematic theology professor at Marquette University who uses his book to teach the University's Introduction to Theology course.
