While there were some changes to the movie, it seems to keep the general theme of those who're mentally challenged being invisible. It doesn't seem to delve much deeper than that. The movie also has a very retro feel to it, mainly the montage when Charlie goes off the deep end. I appreciate that it also didn't try to give a Hollywood "happy ending" to this adaptation.
