Charlie's Last Corn on the Cob is a crime comedy caper, harking back to the golden age of this genre though set in recent times. The main character is an aging third-rate crook - Charlie Crystal. Curiously, a Michael Caine doppelganger with - like many of us - a fondness for the film The Italian Job. Charlie is old, dying from prostate cancer, has an indwelling catheter, and drives a mobility scooter. He has years of petty offences and accompanying prison terms behind him, and he carries the reputational burden of a lack of any significant criminal success. Living in Brighton, he runs a 'dodgy second-hand' car sales garage, with Reg the mechanic, and the support of his fourth much younger, 'good as wife', Kyrstee. Charlie harbours a deep grudge against the local Irish Mafia family; The Fitzpatricks. He had a stint in jail following a joint venture, only to find on his release that they were now successful criminals who wanted nothing to do with him. So, along with a collection of old and new villain friends, Charlie hatches a plan of revenge to correct his reputation and get even. However, to pull off his planned daring robbery and get away with it, Charlie realises that as the inevitable prime suspect, he must first be dead. Naturally, things - as is the custom in crime comedy capers - do not go entirely according to plan...
