Halley and Charlie are surprised by Nicole, a new neighbour the writer didn't put in their story. After meeting her, they discover she doesn't have the same writer as them and that she's lost her dog Patty.
After a long search through the jungle, made easier with the help of Mossy and her new jellybean gun, they save Patty from hungry villagers.
Once Patty is returned, Halley, Charlie and Mossy seek to find the reason their new neighbour and her dog aren't in their own story. In their search for the answer, they end up in a steam engine race with a wizard. They wouldn't be Charlie and Halley if they weren't getting in and out of trouble!
