Chariot In The Sky provides an intoduction to The Negro Spirituals, Fisk University, a HBCU & the cr

This book, written in 1951, is set eight years after the civil war about a young man named Caleb who is following his heart and his dreams. Wonderful attention is given to the Negro Spirituals and its history, purpose and being the first official music published in the United States in 1867. The Negro Spirituals and the Jubilee Singers/ college students at Fisk University, a historically Black College & University, continue to be relevant today. This book should be a bookclub selection shared with family and friends. The author, Arena Bontemps worked as a librarian at Fisk University which provided detailed and authentic material for this excellent book ❤️.

Chariot in the Sky

Although this book is written in an easy narrative, it is an amazing story of life after the Civil War, for all parties. A must-read for all as it brings us together in our search for education and freedom. Everyone should know the courageous story of the Jubilee Singers.
