It is no longer a question of whether change should be implemented within an organisation, but rather of how these almost inevitable changes can be shaped and supported. The Church, as an institution, is not exempt from these processes. Indeed, it is precisely within this type of organisation that an adequate response must be made to changing environmental conditions, despite limited resources. To explore this topic, a change process implemented in the childcare centres of the Archdiocese of Bamberg was analysed and evaluated. Particular significance is attributed to middle managers within this process, and they are therefore the specific focus of this study. Accordingly, this thesis seeks to fulfil two objectives simultaneously: on the one hand, to evaluate the current state of change with regard to nursery management in the Archdiocese of Bamberg, and on the other hand, to highlight the academic discourse on the demands placed on managers in the change process within the Church.
