devin mahoney's The Challenge, a book about coxing at harvard, is an in depth look at the trials and tribulations of being a coxswain, and being a woman. in a sport where the biggest and the littlest of people meet, mahoney uses her size to her advantage. mahoney shows the reader how she overcomes her fears and shines through her nervousness. this book is a great inspiration for coxswains just starting out or seasoned steerers. it is a story to read more than once, for its richness is exhilerating. this is not a manual, but it teaches much of what coxing manuals lack: how it feels to need to win, and how to make it happen.
