Excellent Read!

This was a superb read. It is, by far, the best of the three Odyssey block books. In a nutshell, the first half or so covers the same timespan as Odyssey, just from Chainer's point of view. While Kamahl is off chasing the Mirari, Chainer is developing his magical skills and is rapidly ascending the ranks as the Cabal's best dementist. With the aid of the Mirari (he is the only person so far who has been able to control it), he seems virtually unstoppable. The view into the Cabal's dark intentions is quite entertaining, as we learn more and more about the mysterious Calchexas, the Cabal Patriarch. The book ends in a big climax and leaves readers with an excellent starting point for Judgment. This book earns a well-deserved 5 stars.

good, but not brothers war

an awesome book, but im questioning whether is really good, or just good. Odyssey was, i hate to put it this way, but, garbage. I advise ANYONE to stay away from anything written by Vance Moore. i think what made torment seem so good, is that odyssey so bad. though the book was extremely good, emotional, the ending was nice too, i look foward to scott's next book for magic, he seems promising just by reading torment.

great book

this book is really good. while the Odyssey Cycle isn't my favorite Magic cycle (which is the Artifact Cycle and the Ice Age cycle), Chainer's Torment is still a worthy buy for anyone that likes Magic books.

magic lovers' extrordinairre!!

Chainer's torment,an astounding tale of the world of magic and a young cabalist in Cabal City.Book two of the odyssey cycle.Chainer is ordered by the Cabal Leader(A.K.A.The First) to meet up with Kamahl the barbarian,a pit fighter with a high chance of winning the mirari, an orb which is a well of infinite energy.Chainer and Kamahl become the house team for the cabal but split up when the First ask them to take a dive against Kamahl's sister, Jeska and a dwarf, Balthor. Kamahl refuses so Chainer takes them on himself. When he fights them he gets his arm blown off.The message in this book is saying that "with power comes responsibility".If you cannot contain your own power you will become only the broken shell of a human being.

Pretty good sequal

The book is about a man named Chainer who we met briefly in Odessy, this book goes over a bit of the history of the Mirari that everyone wanted in the first book(and still wants in this book), The Cabul that runs the pit fights, and the powers and way of becoming a dementia caster. The book is kind of slow in the beginning It goes through what happoned in Odessy only this time its from Chainers point of view. After that it gets more interesting as more people and groups fight for the Mirari and for control of everything from Otaria to the Mer Empire. Overall very good book with an ending that leaves you wanting the last book as soon as possible.
