Celestina, originally titled Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea, is a work attributed to Fernando de Rojas, intended to be presented as a play, though its extreme length makes its theatrical representation difficult. Written in 15th-century Spain, the work details the tragic love between Calisto, a noble young man, and Melibea, a young woman of similar social standing.

When Calisto's advances are initially rejected, he enlists the help of Celestina, an old procuress, to win Melibea's affections. Celestina's machinations and the lovers' passionate encounters lead to a series of dramatic and tragic events. Eduard von B 1/4low's German translation makes this classic of Spanish literature available to a wider audience. This dramatic novel explores themes of love, lust, greed, and the consequences of defying social norms.
