Celebrating Common Prayer is the Daily Office book for Anglicans, expandedwith much supplementary material for individual and group use. The originaledition has sold over 30,000 copies. This brand new edition incorporates all the new liturgical texts authorized by The Church of England, based on the new prayer and service book Common Worship. The book offers a pattern of daily prayer which meets many of the needs expressed by Christians from a wide variety of traditions. There is a simple structure for Morning and Evening Prayer, and the services can be led by lay people as effectively as clergy. As well as the texts, suggestions are made as to how the services might be celebrated in a wide range of circumstances, for example, using music of different styles and a visual focus. The services can also be adapted easily for people to use on their own, whether in hospital or on a commuter train.
1. It's portable. 2. It's very user-friendly. 3. The English text of the psalms and prayers doesn't sound like something concocted by ICEL, which is refreshing.
Ingenious system for daily Christian prayer

"Celebrating Common Prayer" (in 2 editions: Pocket, in buckram over boards, and Presentation, in leather with ribbon marker) was devised by the Society of St. Francis of the Church of England. It contains 7 different services of Morning and Evening Prayer, designed for either group or individual use. Each is linked to one of the 7 seasons of the Church Year, with variations for each day of the week. During the 2 long periods of "ordinary time" following Epiphany and Pentecost, these 7 services are used (with minor modifications) in a 7-week cycle, again with variations for each day of the week. The book follows the plan of the Church of England's new "Book of Common Worship: Daily Prayer," but is more compact and self-contained. Everything needed for daily prayer is here, but may be supplemented with other scriptural or devotional readings. Also contains prayers for a variety of special occasions and a short service of night-time prayer. Travels well. The Archbishop of Canterbury has given copies of CCP to other bishops and recommended its use.
