The book is about the company his father, Dr. Dan Andrews, started at the beginning of the 1900's. Dr. Dan was trained as a dentist, but opened the Standard Manufacturing Company, a factory that made brooms out of the fiber of a palm tree. Over the years he employed more than 100 people that lived on the island of Cedar Key. The company was a huge boost to the economy of the small coastal town and the company stayed productive during the Great Depression.
