Will teach you all you need for the CCSA, and then some!

Excellent material for someone who cannot attend the high priced Check Point training, but must maintain or install CP Firewalls. You will learn all you need to know about Check Point and their Firewall and VPN products to successfully manage those devices. A must read!

Good Study Resource

The author presents the material well. Covers all the relevant information for the CCSA. The book was not a difficult read and very understandable. It would help if the reader has some networking knowledge and has worked with Firewall-1 previously. Some of the things readers should know are NAT, IP Routing (understanding IP Addressing), Basic Firewall concepts (what a Firewall does, etc), and some computer skills with NT 4.0 or Unix.Anyone who might have his MCSE, CCNA, Unix experience, etc should not find the concepts difficult to understand and with a little hard work can learn how to install and configure and maintain Firewall-1.If you already work with Firewall-1 then this book should suffice as a resource for the CCSA. Although I personally feel that the more resources you use the better off you will be when it comes time to take the exam.In conclusion the book is a condensed version of the material you need to cover for the CCSA. If you are new to this field then you may want to use it as a supplement with other study materials. If you're already working with Firewall-1 then it should suffice.4 STARS...(it would need to have the actual exam questions to rate 5 STARS).

I have been involved in a network redesign and I was looking for a book that had enough information to help me understand firewalls, Nat and other network security techniques. I found this book to be very helpful in enlightening me to the world of network security. Starting this book is firewalls, denial of service, VPNs, floodgates and NAT. Information that has made the redesign easier for me and the understanding was in terms I was able to comprehend. The book then goes on to talk about the install and configuration of Firewall-1. Moving at a pace that I set I was then reading about network objects and the management of the objects like TCP, UDP, RPC, ICMP, SMTP and FTP. After that the designing of the rule base was the next section to cover. This section covers the three rules most people work with, Stealth, Cleanup and implicit. I think that the most important thing I learned about was the remote administration and NAT. Finishing up the book is the authentication and encryption section followed up with monitoring and performance tuning. Although tailored to a specific exam the book has given me better insight into the world of firewalls and overall a very good book.

Good coverage of materials, test questions very helpful

This book covered the material for the test well, but was confusing in some areas. Overall, i think it served its purpose in getting the material across, and did it much better than the course material did. There were also a couple of errors, but they were apparent if you have used the software prior to reading the book.

It does what it is intended for.

I used this book along with (website's) product for the CCSA exam and passed with an 83. The book points out all of the necessary details needed.
