depressingly beautiful prose about the pain of revolution

only Clitandre could write such beautiful prose about the oppression of the sugar plantations: murder, beatings, dismemberment, emasculation. Survival is a key theme. Helpful to have a background in Haitian history, otherwise, you might need to read this one a few times.
