It is 74,000 years ago. An intelligent group of Clans lives in the sunlit valleys of the Great Mountain Range. The valleys are fertile despite the ice age. A few members of the Clans have Smartbrains, which the Clans call 'Sensitive' abilities. It allows them to detect the brainwaves of life forms and to synchronize with the brain waves of others to the level where they can read or share their emotions. They can also project their encoded brain waves for others to experience the emotions they wish to share. The ability is genetic, powerful, and useful.
The Toba Super Volcano erupts, causing worldwide earthquakes, tsunamis, and a volcanic winter. During the ice age, the valleys on the sunny slopes of the Great Mountain Range always yielded enough sustenance for the Clans to live comfortable lives. But the Catastrophe's destruction and volcanic winter make life unsustainable and cause lethal competition for resources by the other hominid species still roaming the earth at the time.
To survive a safe refuge with adequate resources to live must be found.
Orrox is the surviving scion of the Dynasty leaders who regulate all the Clans. He must save the survivors from the Catastrophic effects and the wars of survival between different hominid species. His ultimate mission is to rescue survivors and to find such a refuge.
Anja is the granddaughter of the best Oracle-Healer in all the Clans. Their Habitat and the valley's resources are destroyed. She is forced to face the dangers of the high mountain crags.
Questa, an Oracle-Healer in training must escape after being abducted by Neanderthal Giants.
JaYan and Magan discover that their Illoreaen Habitat is not as impregnable as they thought. Their Clan must abandon its safety.
How will any survive?

The novel assumes that some humans were highly developed and at least as intelligent then as now. All assumptions are scientifically accounted for. They are listed and motivated as a postscript section at the end of the book.
Smartbrains, called Sensitivity, are the same abilities which are now widely investigated in brain-computer and brain-machine interfaces.
The implications are developed in the novel, allowing interesting situations to develop.
The ability of Sensitivity also exploits the brain's potential to analyze and 'Sense' reality at a deeper level than what those without a developed smartbrain can.
