an inspiring tale

This has a great mix of fantasy aspects. In the way of Watership Down, we're allowed into the animal's world, a world under threat by humans who would hunt the cougars to extinction, and other animals who are a threat. But we also meet humans who have more than the average connection to creature-speak, and human politics (but never in a boring way). This inspiring book really does make you think about what's going on in the natural world, at the same time entertaining and fun to read. I've read it several times, and each time I think I learn a little more.

A puma and an eagle look for love and friendship

Lanakila (the bald eagle) and Sarena (the mountain lion) find themselves entering into a friendship, as the pain of loneliness brings these two creatures together. This has been my favourite book since 1992, and I greatly enjoyed the animal characters. Bald eagle characters are very hard to find in animal fantasy fiction. But more importantly about this novel is the friendship that two animals have, and the fun, teasing, and loving relationship that Lanakila has for his friend Sarena. There is a human story counter-part occurring in the novel, but the animal characters stick out prominently for me. It is a VERY great read. A novel that I enjoy highly.

An excellent book

I bought this book in an airport, looking for something to read on the plane. Little did I know that I was going to read one of my FAVOURITE books of all times. I am not a fantasy type person, but this was so well written, and had been so well thought out, that I have read it at least ten times. It is about a puma and an eagle, a reporter and a rock star, whose lives all ultimately intertwine. The best aspect of this book was definitely the great conveyance on the author's part of each of these animals. You felt you knew every inch of them, physically, mentally, and metaphysically. Advice, if you don't like animals, this won't be a good book for you!
