Interesting twists on standard fairy tales of adventure

Prince Max and Princess Alice live in Grey Stone Castle and are the children of King Leo and Queen Rose. They are typical children and this is a collection of short stories describing their adventures. The basic themes are similar, Alice kisses a pig and it turns into a prince, they explore a cave and encounter a dragon, they go and visit their grandma queen and they play at being a knight. However, it is there that the resemblance ends. Alice and her mother don't want another prince, so she kisses him again and turns him back into a pig. The dragon is their size and is just hungry. They take him back to the castle and feed him. He is allowed to stay at the castle because he is very helpful in starting the fires in the fireplace. Grandma is a witch with a magic broomstick and Max and Alice fly around on it. During their flight, they see Grandma's cat in a tree so they rescue it. While playing at being knights, Alice defeats Max in a joust. These tails are memorable for being different from the traditional fairy tales, but they all have good happy endings. Unless of course you are the prince that is turned back into a pig. This book is good reading material for elementary school children.
