Cascarones is a young adult coming-of-age story that revolves around a Mexican American family living in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. The main character, Suzy, her family, and friends are enriched by the rich traditions and culture of the region, shaping who she becomes. The narrative shifts from present to past, connecting readers to cultural traditions that changed throughout the years. Cascarones, first published in 2018, won three awards. Sylvia S nchez Garza grew up in Weslaco, Texas, and now lives in Edinburg with her family. She enjoys the Rio Grande Valley's culturally rich and beautiful border community. As a former teacher and current school board member, she values education. Garza holds a BA in English, an MA in Education, an MFA in Creative Writing, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies. Her short story, "Ojo" was published in Living Beyond Borders in 2021. She has also published poetry in various literary magazines and two anthologies. Her poetry book, Awaken, was first published in 2022.
