THE GREAT SEDUCER

A fun, adventuresome romp thought 18th-century in Venice and other parts of Europe. I found the book entertaining and interesting, and it was not bogged down with boring facts and footnotes. It is the story of Giacomo Casanova, the great lover and seducer, who supposedly bedded down over 200 women, ladies like Teresa, Henriette, Marina, Angela, etc., and it was said that once he was on the scent, his success rate was about 99% into his bed. Modern so-called, successful lovers still carry his nickname. Some ladies thought Casanova to be a gifted lover - thoughtful and generous, while others found him to be ruthless and selfish. Author Summers used diaries, correspondence, memoirs and other research possibilities to come up with this intimate account, which more than satisfied my sense of historical validity. A good biography, plus a close look at some of the women, by a gifted writer. I liked the account and found it to be an authentic look at the Great Seducer. However, do you ever wonder about the risk factors of STD's and unexpected pregnancies in those previous centuries?

But, he is also a victim, used by women who were more scheming than himself, abandoned when he had nothing more to offer them, finally left alone and lonely. But, is this a faultlessly documented biography that can positively substantiate every claim? In a word, no. The author takes a new look at Casanova, and presents him as she sees him, and it is a fascinating portrait. Do you want a new and refreshingly different view of Giacomo Casanova? If so, then get this book! It is a remarkably interesting read, looking at a fascinating time filled with fascinating people! I highly recommend this book!
