This gun is pointed straight at your heart!

1942, the Nazi occupation of France. Refugees must take a long and torturous route through Casa Blanca on their way to America; there, “Everybody comes to Rick’s.” Rick’s is a nightclub and a way station for a chance to get to America. Humphrey Bogart plays Rick. Here we also stay for a while to watch a drama unfold. There are overlapping stories. One of a young couple trying to get to America, and the girl, wondering if a girl should have to do something naughty, was wondering what would happen if her husband, “a boy in many ways,” found out. A second-rate crook (Peter Lorre) obtains something of value at the expense of two German carriers. A Police Captain (Claude Rains) is shocked to find there is gambling going on at Rick’s as he stuffs his pocket with his gambling earnings. Many other stories surround the main theme of a love triangle that started in Paris and now can mean so much to individuals or the effort for freedom. Will the Nazis win their prize? Will Capt. Renault get the young girl? Will Rick get away with Ilsa? This film has become quite a classic. There are many quotes and misquotes attributed to the film. You will find yourself kibitzing. One memorable scene for all is the showdown where the Germans are singing “Watch on the Rhine,” and Yvonne (Madeleine LeBeau) overpowers them and herself with tears in her eyes, singing the “La M-a-r-s-e-i-l-l-a-i-s-e.” If you watch this movie, then: "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Here's Looking at You Humphrey and Ingrid

This is the classical love lost and sacrifices we make that make us remembered forever. Set in WW2, a former girlfriend walks into a bar and uses her former relationship with the owner to save her husband and herself from being captured by the Nazis. Bogie and Bergman have great chemistry and this is a good couples movie.

Not in good condition!

This DVD was advertised in good condition. Unfortunately there was a deep scratch on the DVD that froze the playback. I had to skip far ahead in the movie to get past the frozen part, missing some of the plot line. Disappointing.

Casablanca is fabulously iconic!

This is one of the finest movies ever made! Casablanca was still occupied France, being a refugee stop over & a quickly changing atmosphere where society's undesirables were commonplace, pick pockets, con men, dealers of transportation papers exploiting desperate people looking for a way to get to America. There is an unrequited love story between Rick(Humphrey Bogart)& Ilsa(Ingrid Bergman) but the story is so much more, being a showcase of heroism, patriotism, sacrifice, martyrdom, refusal to be subjected to the tyranny of the Nazis & their treachery. Claude Rains is great as the Captain Reno & Victor Lazlo(Paul Heinreid) is the Czech Resistance leader the Nazis want to capture. His scene in Rick's Cafe outsinging the Nazis is classic(Viva! La France!). And there is Rick's piano player "Play it Sam" playing "As Time Goes By". Also you'll see Sidney Greenstreet & Peter Lorre. The melodrama plays out with an extraordinary cast & moves quickly in an exciting, well told script. Its a great classic! There's also included a documentary narrated by Bogie's wife, Lauren Bacall. Here's looking at you, kid.
