Carter and Jane had both enjoyed their four weeks' leave. Jane grew to love the farm and life in their cottage. Over the following months, their lives were perfect. Jane had moved in with Carter, and they both shared domestic bliss. They both decided that Jane continued with her job returning to Commander Tony Frost's office as his secretary.

Carter returned to the team, finding that his deputy, Detective Chief Superintendent, Sue Ford, had managed in his absence.
