Lynn and Pete Mayo bought land near Fairbanks, Alaska in 1989. They built an off-the-grid homestead and started a market garden. They are well known for fresh market vegetables especially their sweet and tasty carrots that sell at the Tanana Valley Farmers Market, through on-farm and CSA sales. The authors share their methods of carrot cultivation, soil warming, handling, storage, preserving, cooking information. Also included is a bit of carrot biology, seed saving, and cultivars (varieties) for northern gardens.
