A compilation of recent paintings, drawings and monotypes from the artist who "allows the viewer to encounter life in vivid, animated action" --the New Yorker
Across more than five decades, American artist Carroll Dunham (born 1949) has amassed a provocative body of work in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture by combining human anatomy, landscape and abstract forms, often to surreal effect. His distinctive visual language, informed equally by art history and pop culture, is characterized by thick black outlines, vibrant color and psychologically heightened environments. Studio on Another Planet showcases the artist's latest body of work, completed between 2022 and 2026: 24 paintings, 46 drawings and 5 monotypes depicting a fictional sculptor's interplanetary voyage of self-discovery. In addition to full-color reproductions of the artworks, the monograph includes two new texts that explore Dunham's artistic vision: a critical text by author Naomi Fry and an interview by fellow artist Matthew Ritchie.
