In April 1912, the RMS Carpathia races through the frozen North Atlantic to rescue the survivors of the Titanic. Under the command of Captain Arthur Rostron, the ship becomes a floating sanctuary for the traumatized, the freezing, and the bereaved. But among the rescued passengers - and hidden within the ship's cargo - something ancient has awakened.

As the overcrowded vessel begins its three-day journey back to New York, fear spreads below decks. Survivors vanish. Bodies are found drained of blood. Strange figures move through the corridors after midnight. And a wealthy Croatian aristocrat, Luka Alilovic, seems to know far more about the nightmare unfolding aboard than he admits.

While Rostron struggles to maintain order, a small band of passengers and crew - including wireless operator Harold Cottam, young traveler Patricia Von Ohlen, her uncle Sonny, Titanic survivor Emma Darrows, and the mysterious Valvasor - begin to realize the Carpathia has become the battleground for a hidden war. The ship that saved hundreds from the sea may now be carrying them toward something far worse.

Decades later, in 1996, disgraced reporter Nora Von Ohlen arrives in a remote coastal town after her elderly grandmother disappears under disturbing circumstances. Inside her grandmother's cottage, Nora discovers a diary from the Carpathia voyage and a trail of evidence suggesting the official story of history's greatest rescue left out its most terrifying chapter.

As past and present collide, Nora is drawn toward a remote island, a long-buried family secret, and a surviving evil that has waited more than eighty years to finish what began aboard the Carpathia.
