Carl Bulling is one of the first lawyers who have postulated the abolition of any husband's reign over the wife. Nevertheless, so far the legal historical literature lacks a comprehensive treatise of the life and work of the long-time judge and lawyer. There are multiple reasons for this. On the one hand, the work of the first wave of the women's movement has for a long time received little attention. On the other hand, Bulling's works are to be located in the intersection of legal history, legal doctrine, family law and legal policy.
