The fire under the mountain has been burning for fifty years. But the real heat is coming from something else.

Carbonado Run is a ghost town that hasn't realized it's dead yet. The air tastes of sulfur, the ground is warm to the touch, and the locals wear a terrifyingly pleasant mask of indifference.

Former government investigator Henry Coal has returned to the "Boney"-the wasteland of coal refuse and smoke-seeking quiet. Instead, he finds a signal.

There is a ghost in the wiring. A presence that hides in the static of the radio and the flicker of the streetlights. It is building a nest in the ash, and it is desperate to make a connection.

While the rest of the town sleeps through the glitch, Henry notices the gaps. He hears the hum that shouldn't be there. And he sees that the people he grew up with are being hollowed out, one by one.

To stop the invasion, Henry will have to trust the one thing he has spent his life fighting: his own fractured mind.
