This book is a phonics book disguised as a story book. It is a condensation of the fun parts of a series of five phonics textbooks that we developed for use in our ESL school. We found that phonics books generally don't have content interesting enough to keep students' attention, so we threw some controversy into the mix with a few things we knew kids really like. We hope your kids will like them too. We apologize in advance for use of the words "poop, vomit, slime, spit, snot, toilet, fart, burp, and sweat," and also for the general silliness, but be aware this is a shallow, empty apology and that we really only regret not being able to somehow squeeze "booger" into the mix. We are unashamed in our goal to get your kids reading and enjoying it. (Well, we clearly blush a bit about it I suppose, but it WORKS )

Learning to read still generally starts with phonics. Students first learn their ABCs, and then they learn how to piece words together according to basic rules. Next more complicated exceptions to those rules are introduced. This book does that with five chapters that mirror the industry standard 5 phonics textbook stages in most of the popular series: single letter sounds, short vowels, long vowels, blended consonants, and finally vowel combinations. Content is incrementally increased to create the steep learning curve we hope your kids will experience. Also you might find it has a similarly steep silliness curve. Be aware that the fun curve starts out slowly.
