This book measures and explains the capacity of influence of the 1st Conference on Aquaculture and Fisheries, 1st Conference on Cities, 1st Conference on the Environment, 1st Conference on Sport, 1st Conference on Women's Policies and 1st Conference on Policies to Promote Racial Equality on the respective national policies. This corresponds to the degree to which the recommendations approved at the conferences have been incorporated into the programmes of the respective sectoral policies and is measured by comparing the content of the conference proposals with the content of the policy programmes drawn up after the conferences were held. Given the diversity of results found, the study explains the variation in the influence capacity of conferences based on three structural variables, namely, the political dynamics and the legal institutional framework of public policy and the institutional design of the conference. From this analysis, one can only see a certain relationship between these conditioning factors and the recommendations drawn up in an unprecedented manner at the conferences. As far as recommendations resulting from governmental suggestions are concerned, alternative hypotheses and explanations are raised and suggested.
