Cannon's Revenge

"Cannon's Revenge" is the sixth and final Western in the Jefferson Birch series by W. W. Lee who is better known as the mystery novelist Wendi Lee. Harold Dane is a newspaperman from Deadwood Colorado. Someone has kidnapped his 2-year old daughter, Hannah. He calls his friend Arthur Tisdale of Tisdale Investigations to help him find his daughter. Everyone believes that she was kidnapped by Stu Cannon, an influential man in Deadwood. Dane had written an article which put blame for a murder on Cannon's son Hugh. Hugh was found guilty and hanged. Cannon vowed revenge on Dane. Tisdale calls in Jefferson Birch to help look for Hannah. This novel has a few elements of the mystery story but is mainly a straight Western which is unlike some of the earlier Birch novels which had a strong mystery plot. I really enjoyed reading this little known Western series. I think they are among some of the strongest Westerns I've read in a long time. I don't know if Ms. Lee will write any more of these, but I enjoyed all 6 of them, and I recommend "Cannon's Revenge".
