Life at Susan Camellia Cardiff's house isn't going very well. Her mother's always angry, and her sympathetic father is often away on business. Susan's Aunt Camellia, on the other hand, has always... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a wonderful fantasy that stars a girl which is awfully nice for a change. It is filled with adventure and interesting sensitive relationships - one between Camellia and her father- and others with the many characters/companions on her journey. It is also nice to see that she doesn't have the fantasy perfect family and still feels loved and supported by others. It's nice to see the family depicted in a more realisitic way better reflectng the complex families of today. Kids will love this book which never has a dull moment and does have continuous high adventure. I highly recommend it to both girls and boys and I do hope Mr. Zrudlo provides us with a sequel.
A New World You'll Love

We don't have J.R.R. Tolkein, C. S. Lewis, or Charles Williams around any more to create new worlds for us to explore and enjoy. But now we have E.W. Zrudlo carrying on the tradition!I found this book hard to put down. The story was extremely well crafted, and will be enjoyed by adults just as much as by children. It's literate, full of great allusions and reverberations from some of the best that human beings have thought and written in the past, and it's just a great story. As a philosopher, a reader, and a dad, I recommend this book highly! It deserves a very wide readership.
A book of international reputation

I (a German living in Switzerland) was fortunate enough to receive this amazing book as a christmas present. Since christmas presents are handed out at the evening of Dec. 24th in Germany, I was not able to go to bed without reading the book before. It is fascinating and gripping fantasy tale, certainly apt for childern but for adults as well. My highest recommendation.
Finally, a smart book for kids!

I watch what my kids read. They're both under 14 and it sometimes takes a bit of prodding to get them into a book. They don't like the cover or the title or they get 10 pages into it and get bored. This one was different. My daughter (11) picked it out because the cover jumped at her. Beautiful artwork of a dragon. It's one of those publications you know you'll want to keep around because it's so attractive and sturdy. Then she sat down to read it. It was a Saturday. She wouldn't come down for dinner - she ended up eating at about 9 o'clock! - and ploughed through the book in about 4 hours. I was astonished. She gave it to her brother who, at 13, almost knows everything. He wasn't going to read it at all until she gave him a synpopsis and dared him to like it. He began it that evening, was sidetracked by a movie on TV, then finished it Sunday afternoon. He kept say, "This Bald book is cool!"I had to find out for myself. I took it Sunday night and finished it the same night.A marvelous story with unique and fun characters. The author speaks to the reader in a mature way, not like so many other kids books which seem almost condescending. I immediately saw why my kids devoured it.On Monday night, after finishing her homework, my daughter snatched "Camellia" from my table and told me she wanted to read it again. "I don't want to miss anything," she said.A superb kids' book in every way. When's the next one?

When a young girl's overactive imagination brings to life a jewelled dragon painted on a cave wall, she sets in motion a fine adventure story just right for reading aloud to a favorite child. Lots of excitement with an underlying sophistication adults will appreciate.
