Cambium Cracks: a progression of understanding & misunderstanding

Trees do not heal, they seal/compartmentalize through four walls of defense. Emotionally, humans are quite similar. We often do not forget the things that happen in our life, especially the things that bring us hurt and pain. Unlike trees, we often choose self-destruction after something stressful. That might be the only "coping" mechanism our growth rings know. Like trees, we can fight to survive what tries to kill us, keep it as a reminder of our strength, and encourage new, unique growth from it.

I have been writing poetry through much of my childhood. I did not start calling it poetry until I was 22, but the moment I gave it a name, the words earned their purpose. Reading back through my work recently, I realized that many of these poems are my revelations and observations from traumatic or beautiful moments throughout my life. As I sorted through the poems I've written since 2015, I noticed that there was a common theme as I aged: a yearning for understanding. The voice of that yearning morphs from the innocence and naivety of a child to a voice of hope and solidified beginnings of faith.
