This beautifully illustrated children's book tells the story of a young Lekwungen girl named Sitə and her experience learning about the cherished tradition of harvesting camas. The Lekwungen people are now represented by the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations. They are an Indigenous North American Coast Salish people. Since time immemorial they have occupied parts of Southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Camas was a staple food for many Nations on southern Vancouver Island. I truly hope this book will help young people be inspired to fall in love with Indigenous history and culture.
