Straight to the point

I was fortunate to read an advanced copy of Calm-Ass Leadership before it formally went to press. Without a doubt it is the best book on leadership I have read. The book is a quick read, yet loaded with page after page of "ah has!" The best part is the often funny, easy reading concepts and ideas simply feel like common sense. There are countless books on the market targeting "leadership" - how to become a better leader, how to inspire, what other leaders have done, etc. They all try to explain methods to "change" how you are doing something believing this will make you a "better" leader. Of course this method doesn't work since the very people you are trying to lead can sense you are just acting out something you read in a book. They recognize your actions as only a tool being applied, not a real transformation. Calm-Ass Leadership takes a different approach. Instead of trying to "change" how you behave, Wende Wylie, one of the first female fire fighters in the United States, illustrates through observations and intuitive examples how to transform yourself into a "calm assertive" person. Just like the dog whisperer will tell you the calm assertive individual will naturally lead the pack, so will the calm assertive person lead others, both in the workplace and in your personal life. By being a calm assertive person, you will naturally be followed - it's human nature! It's not about what you say or how you "act", its how you ARE BEING that will inspire others to excel and allow you to be the leader you envisioned. Those around you will not feel they HAVE to follow you, but will sense you ARE a leader and WANT to follow you.
