It Wasn't About Being THE Best, It was About Being HER Best
When she envisioned her next birthday, Chris Paulsen purposed to achieve something more significant than blowing out seventy candles on her birthday cake.
Because water drew her, and swimming was a passion, Chris often swam in one of Phoenix, Arizona's large community lap pools to keep herself mentally and physically fit. From the first time Chris heard about the Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim in San Francisco Bay, she imagined herself taking part in the event.
When visiting southern California, she enjoyed swimming at La Jolla Cove with friends. On one of these occasions, Chris gazed out across the blue waters of the Pacific, and she knew then that the Alcatraz event was to be her next challenge. While it wasn't the English Channel nor the famed Oceans Seven marathon, Chris believed God was directing her to take this step of faith.
Would a sudden and potentially severe back condition thwart her dream? Would the fears of well-meaning loved ones discourage her?
Called to Swim is a reminder that age restrictions, physical obstacles, and emotional discouragements are a part of daily living. But confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ, and a willingness to prepare and pursue dreams and goals with perseverance, opens up new and exciting paths for those who take "the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference" (Robert Frost).
