Call Me the Witness: The Wisdom of Ecclesiastes for Our Time

By Joel Carlman

What is the meaning of life? Why strive after success, achievement, or wealth just to watch it all go up in smoke in the end? Where does one turn to after all the pleasures of life leave us still lacking something?

Living in the 21st century, the human race has access to more technology, wealth, information, and agency than has ever been collectively--and for those in the developed world--individually wielded. Yet depression, anxiety and existential dread pervade the human psyche nonetheless. In our contemporary search for meaning, the ancient text of Ecclesiastes, offers surprisingly apt and timely guidance.

Using deeply personal and vibrant language, Joel Carlman takes the reader on a tour through the wisdom text of Ecclesiastes. Retaining the profound meaning embedded in the text, the author relates this ancient scripture in way that lands with particular gravity for our time.
