A touching story that will appeal to children age 8 and older

"Call Me Hero" is a children's book based on true tales of hero(s) during Hurricane Katrina, written to commemorate the sacrifices and efforts of all the wonderful community volunteers and supporters who reached out to help others during the aftermath of the hurricane. The author has established a website, where others can post rescue stories and photos. In addition, 10% of the cost of each book copy will be donated to nonprofit organizations that aid in disaster relief. "Call Me Hero" is written from the viewpoint of an ordinary dog who survives the hurricane and assists in the rescue efforts in many ways. Though his name was Hero, he never reconnects with his original owner, and he is renamed Santos by his new adoptive owners. Calm, descriptive narrative and accurate, colored illustrations help bring the disaster experience into focus for students. Accompanied by a lovely plush toy, "Call Me Hero" is a touching story that will appeal to children age 8 and older and is a noble memorial to the animals and people who became everyday heroes by helping their neighbors at this very difficult time.
