An excellent starting place for finding out about George Smiley
Published by bernie4444 , 1 year ago
I watched just about every film and miniseries in which the Smiley character was played by different people. One day, I stumbled upon this book and realized I had only seen movie interpretations, so here is my chance to meet the real Smiley.
I was surprised to get a quickie background on George right up front; it pays to read the first book first.
One caveat is that you will probably need a dictionary of terms besides the bead, as this is British English, German, French, and whatnot. For example, the idiom “off the peg”.
The story is more rounded and convoluted, and the characters have more depth, as usual in a book vs. film.
The book is split into fairly small chapters, making it easy to stop and pick up where you left off.
The plot thickens with each chapter. Do not look to me to tell the story, as that is why you will read the book.
