Sharp Vision

I was a little afraid that any C sharp books due out by Wrox would be simple reiterations of the current examples in the .NET framework SDK due to the lack of samples. However, I have at least 10 wrox books and so I decided to take the plunge. I'm glad I did. Although I understand this book had time constraints it is well worth it if you want to get deep into C Sharp. I loved the overview and the look into the reasons why C sharp came to be early in the book. It was a great warm up and forerunner to the excellent samples and code presented later in the book.

Want to know C#, go for it.

This is the tenth WROX book that I purchased and once again this book proved that my investment is not gone wasted. This book starts with an introduction of the .NET framework, C# and C# syntax and finally give you a taste of the strengths of C#. Gives users in a small number of pages, a good understanding of different topics like creating Windows Application, ADO.NET, Interoperability of .NET Components with classic COM Components and vice versa and finally ends up with developing a Web Service. The examples are small but good enough to get a basic understanding and I did not find any problem in running those examples (at least from chapter 8 to 14). Chapter 3 "A tour of VS.NET" gives user a quick introduction to become acquainted with creating project in VS.NET environment. Go for it and I am sure that your money will not be wasted unless WROX introduces something like "Beginning C#" or "Professional C#" or what so ever.

Informative

This is a great book and by far the best book available on C# as of Jan 28, 2001. Because it assumes that readers are familiar with OOP concept, it mainly focuses on c# and does a very good job of describing c#, what it provides, and what it doesn't provide, and often makes a comparison to C++ and Java which made it much easier to understand. Overall, a definite must read if you want to get a quick start in the .net environment

Worth every cent!

Although one can see that the authors struggled the change of a book that started as c# targeted to be used with the command prompt only to an almost fully-grown c# using the VS.NET beta. As in good teams the team was able to maneuver smooth enough to keep up with the quality I expected from Wrox. From the three c# books i believe there are out there in market as of Jan 2001 this one is definitely the best. It is not perfect since it is not through enough but I'll give it 5 stars for the pioneering spirit and also it is the best source to learn c# at this time. I would strongly recommend any VB developer to look into this book for a nice and easy opportunity to learn new friendly language

Best Book So Far

In this world of mediorce technical books that echo available documentation, I have come to depend on Wrox Press, to provide books for actual working developers, that want to get their hands dirty. This book is no exception. The authors provide a very good overview of the .NET framework and the C# language in the first two chapters. Then its on to writing code in C#. Advanced topics in C# are covered well. Developing every day in this language and these technologies, I was still able to expand my knowledge nicely. Later chapters cover COM Interoperability, COM+ Services, ASP.NET and Web Services. This book provides much deeper detail and real code than previous books on C#. I would have liked to see more on the .NET Services and Libraries, which is very important as well as more detail on the IL language. However, this book serves its purpose quite well.
