A girl born in 1929 struggles and goes against adversity in a time of depression, wars, and a changing country. She left an abusive mother in her childhood home to endure brutal marriages and raise five children; one of whom is a handicapped child who was with her to the very end of her life. She had a faith in God that he would be there to guide her throughout her life and stated that she could not have done it without him guiding her. She was a woman of strength and had a ferocious mother's love, but did lose herself along the way at times. This story was written as my mother always said her life could make a book. After a couple of starts and stops, I completed this work, but unfortunately it was after her death. I found out I had a flair for writing in high school and today write for the local newspaper as a guest columnist. I am the proud mother of three and work as a medical transcriptionist at our local hospital. I wanted to share her story as her phrase of By the grace of God, there go I has helped me to become the person I am today. I have found my own inner strength by thinking of those words and remembering that things could be different at God's own discretion. My relationship with my handicapped brother has helped me and the rest of our family have a better understanding of those less fortunate.
