Namoo is a peaceful village on the Bay of Boltan; the Namoo are a gentle people. A photosynthetic race that lives their lives, harvesting Cladophora, Shaloo, gathering nuts and berries, and raising vegetables in their gardens. Every year, at the Summer Solstice, they are terrorized by the Vacterians. A large blue dominant people, who sweep in on their airships and hunt the Chosen. Ten Namoo youth are selected by the lottery. They must hide in the Forest, and the Vacterian warriors will hunt them down. The first to score a kill is the winner. The Namoo despises this ritual hey call The Culling, but it keeps the Vacterians from wiping the Namoo out. The times are seeing new changes. The Sol in the sky over the island continent of Mercia rises in the west and set in the east. It is followed at night by two moons; Haasad and Ganora are circling the planet in a constant chase of ill-fated lovers.
