A good compliment to the "Myth America" TV series.

Like most TV series, you often come across statements without support. So, I tracked down Richard Shenkman's book to learn more about the claims regarding American myths. I wasn't disappointed. It feels like he's narrating this book on TV with more vivid visuals of different media.
The book is worth reading. However, the format might not appeal to everyone, as it features short, choppy statements, and the chapters are organized by topics such as "Discoverers and Inventors," "Presidents," "S-e-x," and "Art."
There is a helpful set of footnotes to guide you to further reading. You might need this since he sometimes stretches the truth.
Ultimately, it's best to read this to gain a clearer view of reality. Read it to your kids and save them a lifetime of "Legends, Lies & Cherished Myths of American History."
