A pleasurably painful slow burn dark romcom!

This. This is possibly the best (dark) romance I have ever read! ...Okay, it may be the only dark romance I've read to date, but it is still marvelous. I absolutely adored Sloane and Rowan and their care for one another right off the bat! As the two trek across the US, not only does their friendship grow, but their perception of themselves does too, and watching them share their insecurities and strengths with each other - even as they unalived other murderers - had me happy kicking and giggling through almost every page! Speaking of the darker aspects of the book, there was humor during the more sordid parts- (cue the accidental cannibalism and "creative" uses of a dead body), and the banter and playful jabs between Sloane and Rowan were perfection. From the moment they met, the friendly bickering made it feel like they had known each other forever. Despite Rowan's fear of losing the skittish Blackbird, his never-ending patience and consideration of her feelings made him a true king to me. Not to mention his brand of never-ending gallows humor and jokes, I was practically rolling on the floor laughing through half of this book, seriously. While the gore was described enough for you to get a good picture of what was happening, it wasn't to the point of detailing specifics of the bloody mayhem. Despite my loving it, for those who are really squeamish might want to take a glance at the trigger warnings before diving into this chef's kiss of a novel. At first, I felt things were a little bouncy with major time jumps between chapters and sometimes smaller jumps within chapters. But as the story progressed, things smoothed out and I appreciated the years of friendship Rowan and Sloane had before they dived into something more, it gave their feelings time to mature, and us to understand them more without it feeling forced. Something else I found neat, the other two main couples from the rest of the trilogy, we meet in this volume! Their lives are intertwined, and I am so here for it! Overall, everything from the rom to the com, to the murder and drama, was well placed, well timed, and interwoven through the story as intricately as Blackbird's webs. I can't tell you one thing about this story that I did not absolutely love; I will forever recommend this to anyone who will listen, as long as they don't mind a bit of macabre with their romance. I can already tell; I'm going to need more than the three books in this trilogy.

Accidental cannibalism and special ice cream

Equal parts hilarious, romantic and action filled. A great story line, took a bit to live up to the smut hype but delivers time and time again. Sloan and Rowan were well rounded characters, and I hated that it was over so fast.

A cute psychotic love story

It’s so sweet and beautifully written that makes you want more

cute, psychotic, romance story

I would say the anticipation was high for this book. Interesting to say the least. Amazing character development. Original plot. Really good dialogue. Tit for tat kind of thing. Spicy parts took a while but that was ok because there was a LOT going in this story. Things that I never could of imagined, like homemade "ice cream" that no one should OD on. The push and pull was great. Relationships created were awesome. Leads to next story in the series!!!!!!!!!! The blood and gore!!!!

If you are looking for a different kind of spicy slow burn romance and not squeamish this is for you

I wish I could have read this book in one sitting but unfortunately work and sleep got in the way. I love a good friends to lovers slow burn and this book DELIVERED. The world and characters the author creates is amazing, not to mention delicious chemistry and humor. This book was actually funny and not in a cringey way. This was so so so close to a 5 stars but since I’m picky I give it 4.75. It’s only because of the second to last chapter. I will say though when I finished the book I kept thinking “now that’s real love right there”. So excited that this is a series and the second book is coming out soon!!

Such a slow burn

It is a slow read but enjoyable. The end picked up and created suspense and drama. I wish there was more intricate detail so the world became real.

I picked it up and didn’t set it down till I was finished.

Trigger warning: Accidentally cannibalism. “If you say count me in, this book is for you” Not much else to say. One of the best written books I’ve read.

Best book I’ve read in a while!

I couldn’t put it down! The characters have insane chemistry! The humor in the book is a lot like humor that I share with my friends.
