Book Overview

We live in a world of staggering distraction. A world so loud and opinionated, it's not only exhausting, but immobilizing. And still we zone out, doom scroll, binge watch, and peek at other people's lives online. Yet it all feels a bit off and empty.

In the struggle to thrive amid the noise and commotion, Bible teacher and blogger Katie Westenberg equips you to focus on what truly matters. Leaning on Scripture, scientific studies of memory, and the power of a renewed mind, she helps you uncover the ancient way of being undistractible: remembering the truth of who God is and how he works. You'll discover practical, real-world tools to help you apply the hope of his Word and live out a focused faith in a frenzied world. We were created, down to our cellular level, to remember. Here is the wake-up call our hearts are longing for--and the clear-eyed focus on truth our souls were made for.

It was...okay

From the overview I was excited to read the book. However, once I started reading it, I found it to be a difficult read. It was presented on a much more technical level than a spiritual one. It appealed more to my scientific side than my spiritual side with all of the secular research and statistics she included. I was able to glean some things, but it is definitely not one of those books I'd save to read over again. The fact that she referred to the reader as "friend" more than 70 times (Yes I counted and it was 73 times to be exact) throughout the 189 pages was quite distracting in and of itself. And it gave the book a very condescending feel. Overall it was a descent book but be prepared for an "operating room" rather than a "friend chatting over coffee" type of experience.
