Junior fiction fantasy novel. Rex wanders off into the bush and after losing direction, rests under a tree, where he noticed the impression of a kindly face of an Aboriginal elder on the tree-trunk. He falls asleep under the tree he calls Gran Yan, and the bush comes to life, with the ancient tree narrating adventures of a bygone era where Indigenous families teach their children about bush magic and survival in the wild. Book one focuses on teaching their children to respect their tribal lore, respect their elders and fauna and flora. They learn some ancient mythology that is known as the Dreamtime and to respect fire and waterways, and to obey instructions.
