Burned is a true-crime murder mystery that has challenged the best forensic minds in the country and gained national attention on CBS’s 48 Hours and Court TV’s Forensic Files. What really happened out... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Author Jana Cone has chronicled a puzzling murder case in which the outcome of the trial was questioned and a life in the balance. Cone did an exceptional job of writing the facts in the case of a woman accused of killing her mother; and made it readable. It is one thing to report a high profile murder case and another to make it read like a novel. Outstanding.

I read Burned after hearing Jana Cone speak at a local civic club. I started reading about 2:30 p.m. and finished it in eight hours. I couldn't put it down. Since I live in Omega and know many of the ones involved (though not all), I was particularly interested to see how Jana developed the town and the principals. Omega experienced all the angst and anger that Jana describes. Her reporting skills are formidable, and her storytelling straightforward. She moves the story through intricate investigative techniques and legal maneuvering, somehow keeping the reader enthralled. The reader is left to draw his own conclusions, but with all the facts in front of him, he can feel that he knows the truth. I know from Jana's past newspaper career that she is a daggum good reporter. I just didn't know how good.
Fascinating Story

"Burned" by Jana Cone is a true crime story that will rock you to the very tip of your toes. It is obvious this story took many, many hours of detailed research. The author has a knack for presenting dry facts in such a way as to make the reader sit on the edge of his seat, turning pages, eager to discover more. Each person in this fascinating story is introduced in such a way you feel like you know them; the good, the bad and the ugly; the weak and the strong. This is not a fun type, feel good story. It is a raw slice of real life. I would not give this book a five star rating; it merits at least ten stars! Jane Cone is a master of her craft. Hope to read more from this fine author.
Involved

From Ralph Newell, an involved witness: Author, as you are well aware, I refused interviews with network sensationalism, i.e., 48 Hours and Forensic Files. However, I would now be more than willing to discuss this book and the facts with anyone including TV. The facts and the truth are in this book. What is not told either in the book, or on TV, was that I testified only under subpoena by the State of Georgia. I actually lost four weeks of work and was never reimbursed. I feel very justified about my involvement and testimony after reading this terrific book! Great work, Jana! The book shows the greatest impartiality in reporting the facts and is extremely well written.
A Real Page Turner

This is a true-crime book that reads like a fiction novel. Once I started, it was like eating Georgia peanuts, and I couldn't put it down. A real mystery thriller this one. I think I have figured out what happened in this case but I will have to email Ms. Cone and see if she agrees with my opinion. If this is Ms. Cone's first true crime book, she has a bright future ahead of her writing true-crime.
