It is difficult to write an impartial review of this book, as I am too closely associated with the scene of the action. For anyone who lived in Beirut in 1975 and 1976, as I did, this is a "must read", a book clearly meriting a five star rating. For others, it may be less riveting, but I might well be wrong. Even for the general reader, it certainly merits at least three stars. The book brings back vividly those days when Lebanon was begining to tear itself apart. From the pages leap forth the sights of destroyed buildings, the sound of car bombs and heavy weapons, the smell of rat infested mounds of garbage on every street, the feel of impending doom, the taste of an imploding society. The book suffers only from a lack of proofreading, a small sin indeed. For anyone who has lived in Lebanon - buy the book now. For those who would benefit from an insider's view of a Middle East crisis, this is the book for you. For the more general reader, the book is certainly worth the price simply as an exciting adventure.
