This Final Year Programme is qualitative in nature. It consists of research into the construction of instruments from recyclable and/or alternative materials, reflections on music education, as well as workshop practices. A survey was carried out of publications available on the websites of the Brazilian Association of Music Education (ABEM) and the National Association for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Music (ANPOM). The research focuses on the construction of instruments from recyclable and/or alternative materials in Brazil, emphasising the work of Walter Smetak, Marco Ant nio Guimar es with the Uakti group and Fernando Sardo. This is followed by an account of the Cate ra Landfill Orchestra in Asunci n, Paraguay, the possibilities of building and using instruments of this nature in music education, interdisciplinarity; interviews with instrument builders and educators who have written on the subject. An account of the author's experience in workshops, his learning process in building musical instruments from recyclable and/or alternative materials and final reflections.
